Artist's Statement
I emigrated from the West Indies in 1980 and settled in South Jersey by way of Brooklyn, New York to pursue a career in the Casino Industry. However, my passion has always been to pursue a career in the creative Arts. My Practice is deeply rooted in traditions of the Caribbean with its Calypso, Socca and Reggae Music, as well as, the rambunctious colorful costumes of Carnival.
As a multimedia an artist I do not restrict himself to any particular medium or genre. My portfolio is free form and expressive with inspiration in the primitive and abstract - in wood, clay, glass, metal, paint and more. My body of work is three-dimensional forms in and yet offers combinations of many materials and techniques, including patina and painted Sculpture. Some of the Artists that I admire and relate to are: Marcel Duchamp, Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol, El Anatsui and Mark Di Suvero.
I don't believe in staying confined to any one medium or material. For each project, I choose media based on the inspiration, vision and statement particular to that one piece. For me, artistic inspiration and expression is complex and multifaceted. My work reflects a similar free-form interpretation of the world around me.
In so saying, Art to me is a natural extension of the mind, thoughts, dreams, emotions and imagination. It is unlimited in color, texture and weight. It is about experimenting and expressing myself with a variety materials. My art reflects the intricate tapestry of the human experience. I believe the best art is constantly evolving, innovative and new, changing its modes of expression - while maintaining healthy respect for the traditions of the past.
In addition to creating work for exhibition throughout the East Coast, I am a respected teacher, juror and leader in the world of fine arts in Southern New Jersey. I was chairman of the Atlantic City Arts Commission 2004 – 2008 and am an advocate for many Social issues in my Community, such as; low income housing and low cost, clean water for my community.
